Shades of Praise Worship Arts™
The vision for Shades of Praise Worship Arts™ began in 1999 as a Hula Ministry called Ha`i Ola Ministries in the California Bay Area. During this season, with the support of Pastor Charlie Ferchau, Makalea realized her calling to use her Hula to worship and share the Gospel. She helped plant other Hula ministries within California, danced for other Bay Area dance groups, taught classes and workshops, and volunteered as a keynote speaker as an Artist Associate for World Vision, sharing her testimony and acquiring sponsors for needy children and families.
She moved to the Mid-Columbia Gorge in Oregon where she finished her Bachelor of Theology, became an Ordained Pastor, worked for The American Red Cross, and volunteered as a Chaplain for Heart of Hospice and Mid-Columbia Medical Center. While there, she felt the need to help others who shared the same heart and vision to use their talents for the Lord. With the support of United Evangelical Churches, and the help of Jenny Morin, Jenna Chamness and McKenzie Mellow, they formed Shades of Praise Worship Arts™. Makalea is back in the Silicon Valley teaching at many locations within the Silicon Valley.
